Whole Foods/ Trader Joes Love

18 Jul

I love Whole Foods.

I love Trader Joes.

No joke. I am in love with them. Unfortunately, the closest ones to me are an hour and a half away. So when I go, I stock up. These are literally the closest places I can get dairy-free cream cheese, butter, and coconut milk yogurt. I’m lucky the grocery stores in my town carry almond and soy milk. : /

Anyway, last week I got the opportunity to go to these two fabulous stores, so I thought I’d dedicate a post to some of  my favorite things (not all though- that’d be a long post!) from these two stores, as well as some new things I discovered this trip!

Beverages! Coconut water (this time, chocolate flavor!) and Kombucha. Both these drinks are too expensive to drink all the time, but I only go to Whole Foods about once a month, So I like to treat myself!

Coconut yogurt. I buy this stuff by the case. (Which gives me a 30% discount at Whole Foods!) My most recent trip it was on sale, So I bought a ton! My favorite flavor is chocolate. It’s like chocolate pudding. But I can get away with eating it for breakfast!

Earth Balance, my favorite vegan buttery spread of all time. Nothing beats this stuff. And since they don’t sell it at my grocery store, I buy the tub that’s as big as my head.

Ice Cream. I have a hard time keeping this frozen in the car, but I bring a cooler full of ice with me. I’m dedicated. I love love love So Delicious coconut ice cream, and this time I bought some Rice carrot cake ice cream as well. Uh Mah Zing. Tastes just like carrot cake. Don’t know how they do it. And of course, my all time favorite ice cream, Trader Joe’s Chocolate Cherry Chip.

Chocolate Hazelnut Milk. This was a recent find, and my first time trying this. It was like liquid Nutella. So amazing. I’m planning on making some ice cream with this stuff : )

Trader Joe’s Salsa Chips. I cannot get enough of these. I could probably eat a whole bag in one sitting. They taste just like salsa. If that comment was even needed.

Chips! I know Trader Joe’s is technically considered a health food store, but for some reason I come out of it with a cart full of junk food. Baked onion rings, Flaxseed tortilla chips, and veggie chips are some more of my favorite chips from TJ’s.

And last but not least, a few TJ’s staples. First, Frozen Fruit. Berries, mango, pineapple, it’s all so cheap! Once again, this has to ride in the cooler in my car. Second, Veggie corn dogs. These taste just like the real deal. And lastly,  yogurt cheese. It’s made with cow’s milk, but it’s lactose free!

So, there you go. Now mind you, this isn’t everything that I buy at Trader Joes and Whole Foods, but they’re some of my favorites!

What are your favorite stores to shop at? Do you go to Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods? What are some of your favorite products?

That’s a lot of yummy looking stuff! We don’t have a Trader Joe’s within the state, but I don’t know a person that has been there that isn’t in love. My Aunt brought down corn salsa that I tasted and fell in love with.

Are the onion rings like funyuns? Man I miss funyuns!

Yes they taste just like funyuns! Well, they might taste a smidge different, but they’re delicious all the same. And they’re baked!

Um, yum? I’m so jealous! I used to live in California and I went to TJ’s all the time… now I’m back in Canada and living without it! Boo!! :P

I love TJ’s veggie chips! They happen to have them at my local HEB, amazingly. But mmmf, all of this stuff looks awesome! My nearest Whole Foods is also a good hour away, it’s so lame! This post has convinced me I gotta get up there more often, though! :D

Is the carrot cake ice cream good? ive been tempted to buy some, but wasn’t sure.

    • A Tablespoon of Liz July 21, 2011 at 4:23 pm #

yes, and it’s sooo good! I think coconut based ice creams are creamier, but the flavor was spot on with this one. The color is bright orange, which I know is what color carrots are, but it takes a while to get used to ice cream that color, lol.

We don’t have a Trader Joe’s where we live, but Whole Foods is only a few miles from where we live, and we love it!! Don’t even get me started on So Delicious’ coconut ice creams, creamers, and milk!! OMG…I totally LOVE all their products!!!!!

I’ve tried some of Pacific brand milks but usually just stick with almond vanilla. I’ll definitely try the hazelnut chocolate since you said it tastes like liquid Nutella. Sounds totally fabulous! Thanks for the tip! :)

I’ve never been to Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s because they don’t have either in my city. However, rice carrot cake ice cream might just be enough to get me to make the long trip as well!

Everything looks delicious, I am so jealous right now!

    Liz,

Went to TJ’s today – they said their Salsa flavored tortilla chips had been discontinued! There were none in the store (Columbia, Maryland). Have you found this to be true?

Whaaaattt????!? That is SO sad. Those literally make my day. I haven’t been to my TJ’s in a while, so I don’t know if it’s the same out here, but I imagine it’s in all stores. Why do they do that? It’s like every time I fall in love with something they take it away from me, lol.

Joe- It is true. You were right. I went to Trader Joes today and they don’t sell them anymore. I wanted to cry.

        Liz,

Yeah, this is BS!!! There’s even a “Trader Joe’s Salsa Chips are Lethal” (meaning they’re awesome!) page on Facebook they’re so good! Go to traderjoes.com and submit an e-mail saying you want them back! :)

Joe- I’ll most definitly send them an e-mail! I don’t know if you have a meijer grocery store near you, I think they might only be in the michigan/indiana/ohio area, but they have a store brand spicy black bean and salsa tortilla chip that’s pretty good. I mean, it’s nowhere near TJ’s salsa chip level, but I guess it’ll just have to try and fill the void. : /
