Lunch Rut

24 Oct

I often find myself in food ruts, like much of the blog world. And I know sometimes it can be a bad thing, but I’m loving the rut I’ve been in lately when it comes to lunch!

I know most vegetarians try to stay away from the ‘vegetarians only eat salads’ and I’m not saying I only eat salads (Disclaimer: I don’t only eat salads!) But I do eat them a lot. At first, I thought it was because I just really like lettuce, then I realized that if it wasn’t for the salad dressing, I would hate it. So maybe I just really like salad dressing? And hummus. I could never forget hummus.

So here are some pictures of some of my recent lunches… filled with veggies and hummus!

Veggie cheese, pita bread, veggies, hummus, dried green beans and dates

Monstrous salad!

veggies, hummus, pita bread, crackers, cashews, dates, and pickles!

Pita with hummus and onions, cashews, dates, and salad

Salad, hummus, cucumbers, and peppers

Pita piza, dates, veggies, and more hummus.

Giant salad with green goddess dressing, and a blob of hummus. just because.

So there you have it… a lot of similar meals, but I think they look pretty! My dinners are a lot different… and actually cooked. But they just don’t look as pretty, and I never remember to snap a photo of them. : /

Do you get stuck in a food rut ever? Do you want to get out of it, or are you ok with being stuck in it?

If you want to change things up, and you are into squash and hummus, have you thought about making pumpkin hummus? Just a thought . . .

I always get in food ruts for when I come home from school for a snack. I want something filling, but not too filling that I’ll spoil my lunch. All your snack plates look great though! I should try that.

not gonna lie, those meals look pretty darn tasty! but i totally know what you mean about being in a food rut. sometime it’s because i only feel like eating a certain thing and then other times it’s because other foods are too far out of my comfort zone (which i am trying to work on). when i am in a food rut, i try to just let it pass. this may take months or just a few days. either way, i am able to usually get out of my ruts :)

Yum, hummus. In my mind there is never enough! And why not have a lot of really similar meals? Sometimes I can eat pancakes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (which is why I love to sneak squash in them to make them extra nutritious). :)

I def get in food ruts when I find something I love, but I’m cool with that! I eat a turkey and provolone sandwich almost everyday for lunch and don’t think I’d ever get sick of that! Plus your hummus and veggie plates are so nutritious and really yummy!

Yes, I too get in ruts, but at the same time – I buy the cheapest stuff that will last me the longest, so what can you do? And as long as I’m not tired of it, I’m good to go :)

I am in a perpetual food rut! Our diet is super limited by food allergies. All I can do is try new spices or splurge on saffron to change things up a bit. But I am grateful for the food we can eat and that we are healthy. Breakfast is tough, though, I just treat it like lunch and eat leftovers these days.

Now those are what salads should look like! You’ve definitely just inspired me to eat more salads. I’m jealous that you eat so many vegetables!

I think if anything I’ve been in a bit of a food rut with fruit lately. I can barely force myself to eat raw vegetables anymore, and I’ve simply been eating tons of fruit instead. (I may need to work on that.)

Hehe, I’m stuck in a food rut with breakfast — oatmeal, vanilla protein powder, cinnamon, nut buttah, and a fruit. The only thing that differs in the morning is the type of nut buttah and the fruit! :) But I’m ok with that. :D

    HUMMUS IS THE BEST! :D

All of your meals look really good, but I know what you mean about being in a rut. Sometimes I am ok with it and at other times, I just get sick of eating certain things.

Breakfast is my more difficult meal with which to expand my horizons. I will go to bed craving an egg and then the thought of making one the next morning just grosses me out for some reason.

I don’t know if this would be considered a food rut but I eat the same thing 4-5 times a week. Burritos with soy curls!!…hence the photo of the 12 pounds of soy curls I posted the other day.

I don’t consider them ruts, but I do eat a lot of the same foods over and over again (when I love something, I love it!). But I’d only consider it a rut if I was like ‘ugh, granola again? Ice cream cookie sundae again?’

I can tell we have similar food tastes and while I’m not vegetarian/vegan, your choices are all things I LOVE. You might have luck with a vegan veggie wrap that I like that includes many things you’ve put on your plate, but in a wrap form: I split a pita in half in a way that makes two round circles instead of one, separating it around the edges, then spread with hummus (any kind), sprinkle with onion, raisins, shredded carrot, then layer on some fresh spinach and roll tightly. It’s a spin off of this one, which is also very good: http://veronicascornucopia.com/2011/04/13/muhammara-hot-pepper-dip/ This might make you feel less in a rut, even if it’s the same ingredients-ha!
