FINALLY

27 Jun

Yup. This finally happened. I got to eat at the Whole Foods Salad Bar!!!

The closest Whole Foods to me is about an hour and a half away, but I still manage to make it out there to go shopping at least once a month to every six weeks. I just can’t help myself.

But recently (about two weeks ago, I’m just now getting around to blogging about it!) I actually got the salad bar, instead of just staring at it longingly as I shopped. I’ll admit, the salad bar at this whole foods wasn’t the best I’ve seen (once again, from afar, longingly) but I was excited none the less.

I pretty much just piled on the veggies, grilled tofu, sweet potato wedges, and a few grain type salads. I was a little nervous because I was afraid about contamination from gluten, but it turned out okie dokie.

I feel like I can die happy now that I’ve eaten at the Whole Foods Salad Bar.

Lastly, I need some help from ya’ll!!

My boss is hosting a meeting with some very important people, and she wants me to whip up some appetizers for it. I’m really excited about it, but I’m not quite sure what to make. She wants a couple healthy options, and a couple treats. I’ve got the sugary goodies down, it’s the healthy options I’m having trouble with. For example, I mentioned hummus, and she gave me a disgusted look. I was like, How can you not like hummus?!?!?! But whaves. I guess I’ll have to find something else. If you’ve got any suggestions, let me know!!

First off — make hummus anyways! Seriously, who doesn’t like hummus? Your boss is one of those 1 in 100 people, so you could always just make it and hear about how much everyone ELSE liked it.

As for other healthy idea, I hesitate to do this, but I’m going to point you here: http://epicureanvegan.com/

I used to follow her site, but then I realized that she’s one of those batty, condescending, holier-than-thou vegans. Doesn’t mean she doesn’t make good stuff, but I’m not a fan of any type of vegetarian/vegan judgmental ideology — it gives the rest of us tolerant non-meat-eaters a bad name.

Right? hummus is amazing. But, I do live in very rural Indiana, so for the most part, if it’s not battered and fried or have a stick of butter in it, a lot of people say no thanks.

And thanks for the link, I’ll definitly check it out! And yeah, I dislike those types of vegetarian/vegans, they do give the rest of us a bad name. : /

OMG, who doesn’t like hummus!? What a weirdo haha :P I’m jealous you’ve ever even been inside a Whole Foods. I want one in my area so bad!

Here are my appetizer suggestions, not all are necessarily healthy, but very omni friendly… Falafel balls with tzatziki sauce. Serve ‘em up, stuck with pretty toothpicks, like swedish meatballs (only better)… Spinach dip. Serve with a baguette (ooh, fancy) or other bread and crackers, and cut veggies… Bruschetta is always popular… And finally, I make a guacamole roll, that I love. Take a tortilla, spread with guacamole, sprinkle with shredded lettuce, roll, slice into bite size servings, and (since we’re trying to impress the guests) poke with pretty toothpicks.

I bet they would like the hummus if you made them try it! I would force them to LOL.

Hummus is the answer, to the question of crudites……people who don’t like hummus are a great concern to the continuing development of our species. Happy munching, lee
